Buenos Aires, Argentina.- Argentine President Javier Milei received Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi this Saturday at noon at the Casa Rosada, as part of his official two-day visit to Buenos Aires. In a meeting marked by cordiality and strategic vision, the two leaders held the first formal bilateral meeting between heads of state from both countries since 1968, when then-Prime Minister Indira Gandhi visited Argentina.

During the meeting, both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening ties between the two nations, with a strong focus on energy cooperation, defense, trade, and investment. India, a country with a growing demand for food, energy, and minerals, views Argentina as a key partner for its economic expansion and diversification plans.

President Milei emphasized the importance of advancing strategic agreements in areas such as lithium, oil, gas, agriculture, and nuclear energy. Prime Minister Modi, in turn, celebrated 75 years of diplomatic relations between India and Argentina, and five years since the elevation of the bilateral relationship to the level of Strategic Partnership.

"It was an excellent meeting with President Javier Milei. We have made significant progress, but we agree that the road ahead is even more promising," Modi stated on his official X account. He also expressed his enthusiasm for deepening the friendship between both countries, highlighting their economic complementarity as the foundation for a lasting partnership.

The Argentine delegation included senior officials such as Presidential Secretary General Karina Milei, Foreign Minister Gerardo Werthein, and several ministers and secretaries linked to production, energy, and international relations. The Indian delegation was led by Foreign Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, accompanied by high-ranking diplomats.

During the official lunch at the Casa Rosada, both leaders continued exchanging ideas to promote joint investments, particularly in strategic sectors such as mining and renewable energies. Indian Ambassador Ajaneesh Kumar emphasized the intention to strengthen cooperation in critical minerals, technology, and pharmaceuticals.

With this visit, Narendra Modi reinforces his outreach to the Global South amid a shifting geopolitical landscape. For Argentina, India represents not only a large-scale market but also a partner willing to engage in productive, mutually beneficial initiatives.
