Fort Lauderdale: Water Taxis Officially Expand to Pompano Beach
A historic ribbon-cutting ceremony took place on Monday morning at Pompano Beach, marking the official partnership between the city and the Water Taxi of Fort Lauderdale. This new expansion allows locals and tourists to explore South Florida’s coastline conveniently, with water taxi services now connecting Lighthouse Point to Hollywood.
The event was held at Dockswell Dock, where city and Water Taxi officials celebrated the launch. Mayor Rex Hardin of Pompano Beach expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “This has taken a lot of planning, a lot of preparation to get to where we’re at.” He emphasized how this new transportation option is a “game changer” for residents. “Imagine if you live near the beach area but work in downtown Fort Lauderdale,” Hardin explained, highlighting the potential benefits for commuters.
Bill Walker, CEO and President of Water Taxi of Fort Lauderdale, underscored the value of the service for tourists and residents alike. “A lot of people stay on the boat and ride around, but many get on and off to explore destinations like parks, restaurants, hotels, and beaches,” said Walker. The water taxis make 128 daily stops, providing a flexible and enjoyable way to travel.
For Florida residents, the service is also a gateway to embracing the South Florida lifestyle. “Many people don’t have boats, so this is one way for them to experience being on the water,” added Mayor Hardin.
