In a meeting that reinforces the ties between ideologically aligned leaders, former U.S. President Donald Trump welcomed Argentine President Javier Milei at his Mar-a-Lago club in Florida. This meeting, the first between Trump and a foreign leader since his victory in the U.S. presidential elections, underscores the close connection between the two politicians and their shared vision.

A Strategic and Symbolic Meeting

The meeting took place on Thursday, November 14, and according to close sources, unfolded in a positive atmosphere. Milei, known for his anarcho-capitalist stance and his praises of Trump, also used the visit to engage with investors and participate as a speaker at the America First Policy Institute gala. During his speech, he criticized leftist ideologies and highlighted Elon Musk as a figure who, according to him, is “saving humanity” with his innovative vision.

Towards a Free Trade Agreement with the United States

Milei, who took office as President of Argentina in November 2023, reaffirmed his intention to pursue a free trade agreement with the United States, emphasizing the ideological alignment between both governments. “Under these conditions, we can advance in greater trade agreements with the United States,” he stated in an interview with Radio Rivadavia in Buenos Aires. This proposal comes a day after a phone call in which Milei congratulated Trump on his recent electoral victory.

From Admirer to Political Ally

The bond between Milei and Trump is not new. In February 2023, the two met during the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Washington, marking the beginning of a close relationship. The Argentine president has been open in his admiration for Trump, whom he considers an inspiration for his government agenda, which includes eliminating ministries, drastically reducing public spending, and promoting strategic trade agreements.

A Stage for Economic and Political Projections

The meeting at Mar-a-Lago not only strengthens the ideological connection between Trump and Milei but could also open doors for new economic and trade collaborations between Argentina and the United States. This rapprochement could signal a significant shift in bilateral relations and Argentina’s integration into an economic model more aligned with the policies promoted by Trump.

With this meeting, Milei takes a decisive step in his strategy to position Argentina as a key partner of the United States under the future Trump administration, consolidating a joint agenda that promises to be as controversial as it is ambitious.
