England will take on the Netherlands in the semi-finals of Euro 2024 in Dortmund after the Dutch team found a route past Turkey, while the Three Lions also progressed to the last four after beating Switzerland on penalties.

The Netherlands made a stunning comeback from a goal behind to secure a 2-1 victory over Turkey, earning themselves a spot in the semi-finals. In Düsseldorf, England needed penalties (5-3) to overcome Switzerland after a 1-1 draw, with goals from Breel Embolo and Bukayo Saka in 120 minutes of play. Despite advancing to the semi-finals, England's performance remains under scrutiny in Euro 2024.

This marks the first time the 1988 champions have reached the final four in 20 years, thanks to a dramatic turnaround in their performance. Turkey initially took the lead in the first half with a goal from Samet Akaydin, but the Netherlands responded fiercely in the second half. Goals from Stefan de Vrij and an own goal by Mert Müldür ensured Ronald Koeman's team progressed to the next round. The Netherlands will now face England in Dortmund on Wednesday, competing for a place in the Euro 2024 final.

The match was filled with tension and excitement, culminating in a crucial save by Dutch goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen. His late stop from Semih Kilicsoy preserved the Dutch lead, following an equalizer by Stefan de Vrij and the eventual winning goal claimed by Cody Gakpo.

The Turkish side, spurred on by their president Recep Tayyip Erdogan and a fervent crowd, seemed poised for victory after Akaydin's goal. Erdogan's arrival at the stadium, accompanied by his wife Emine, added a significant moment to the charged atmosphere. The buildup to the match had been overshadowed by controversy, stemming from Merih Demiral’s suspension for making a "wolf" gesture associated with an extremist nationalist group during Turkey's win over Austria. This incident had led to diplomatic tensions, with the Turkish and German governments summoning each other’s ambassadors.

As Erdogan conspicuously supported his team from the stands, the Turkish fans created an incendiary atmosphere. Earlier, there had been a flashpoint outside Olympiastadion, where some supporters defiantly performed the controversial salute en masse. The police intervened, halting the fan march and later stating on social media that the event was "not a platform for political messages."

Despite the intense backdrop, the Netherlands emerged victorious, setting up a thrilling semi-final clash with England. The Dutch team now stands just one match away from the Euro 2024 final, driven by their dramatic comeback and the hope of reclaiming their former glory.
