"Our goal with the Icon was for it to be the place on planet Earth where a family, a couple, a cruise enthusiast, can have their best vacations," said Alberto Muñoz, Vice President of Royal Caribbean for Latin America.
In a historic milestone for the cruise industry, Royal Caribbean International is gearing up for the much-anticipated debut of the Icon of the Seas in January 2024, marking a revolutionary change in the way travelers experience cruises. "The Icon of the Seas comes to change the way we all are going to sail and travel on a cruise," exclaimed Alberto Muñoz, Vice President of Royal Caribbean for Latin America. "Our goal with the Icon was for it to be the place on planet Earth where a family, a couple, a cruise enthusiast, can have their best vacations. We are competing with ourselves and with all the cruises we had before, with hotels, with parks. It is a ship that comes to have eight neighborhoods, each with its own life."
In an exclusive interview with ABC Mundial, Muñoz highlighted the distinctive features of the Icon of the Seas. "It is the first ship to have a water park on top of the ship, so kids and not-so-kids who like slides will be there non-stop. And it's all included in the price; it's not that you have to enter and pay extra. In addition, we have more than 40 dining options among bars and beverages."
The enthusiasm for the Icon of the Seas is evident, as Muñoz revealed that it has been the fastest-selling product in history. "Once we opened it for sale, it quickly sold out for 2024. We even had to anticipate sales for 2025 and 2026 because travel agents were saying, 'I'm being asked for Icon, and I have nothing to sell. That's why we anticipated sales, historic.'"
The Icon of the Seas offers a variety of experiences in its eight neighborhoods. Thrill Island, Chill Island, Surfside, AquaDome, The Hideaway, Royal Promenade, Central Park, and Barrio de Suites promise unparalleled excitement, relaxation, and entertainment.
This maritime giant also marks a milestone in sustainability as the first ship from Royal Caribbean that can run on liquefied natural gas (LNG). With dual-fuel engines and a series of energy efficiency initiatives, the Icon of the Seas positions itself as the most sustainable ship in the cruise line so far.
With 28 types of cabins, including the new Ultimate Family Townhouse with three levels, the Icon of the Seas ensures that every type of tourist finds accommodation that suits their needs.
Royal Caribbean International welcomes everyone aboard the Icon of the Seas, offering a unique experience that promises to create unforgettable memories on each journey. The debut in January 2024 in Miami marks the beginning of a new era in the cruise industry, where innovation and excellence are found in every corner of this maritime colossus.
The Icon of the Seas not only stands out for its imposing size but also for the innovations it offers on board. In each of the eight neighborhoods, passengers will find experiences designed to satisfy all tastes and preferences.
Thrill Island, the epicenter of excitement, houses the largest water park at sea, Crown's Edge, a raised walkway that challenges adventurers to swing 154 feet above the ocean, and the FlowRider simulator, where aquatic fun knows no bounds. Additionally, gastronomic options such as Basecamp and Desserted offer delights to satisfy any craving.
Chill Island, on the other hand, presents itself as a three-deck paradise with four of the seven pools of the Icon. From the lively Swim & Tonic to the serene Cove infinity pool, this neighborhood is the perfect place to relax day and night, with live bands, DJs, and poolside spots like The Lime & Coconut and El Loco Fresh & Cantina Fresca.
Surfside, the first neighborhood designed for young families, offers a wide range of options for splashing around, including the new Water's Edge pool for adults and the Splashaway Bay water park for kids. Gastronomic options such as Surfside Eatery and Pier 7 provide exclusive culinary experiences to please all family members.
AquaDome, a sanctuary of tranquility during the day and a vibrant spectacle at night, features panoramic ocean views, new and recurring restaurants and bars, a 55-foot-high water curtain, and the next-level AquaTheater premiering the first cast of robots, skaters, divers, and more.
The Hideaway, hidden 135 feet above the ocean, offers a beach club experience with the first infinity pool suspended at sea. With a DJ and an exclusive bar, this neighborhood is the ideal place to contemplate sunsets and enjoy good music.
Royal Promenade, the heart of the Icon, features over 15 restaurants, bars, and lounges, including Dueling Pianos, Royal Caribbean's first dueling piano bar, and the new 1,400 Lobby Bar, inspired by shipbuilding history, with a sea-facing terrace that opens the reinvented outdoor neighborhood for the first time. It also includes favorites with a different touch, such as Giovanni's Italian Kitchen & Wine Bar, Starbucks, and more. The all-time favorite also features ocean views from floor to ceiling, an engineering feat made possible by The Pearl, the world's largest kinetic art sculpture.
Central Park, lusher and livelier than ever, reinvents itself with more ways to dine, drink, and entertain. From the popular Izumi to the American steakhouse Chops Grille, guests can enjoy an outdoor atmosphere surrounded by real plants.
The Suite Neighborhood, Royal Caribbean's widest, spanning four terraces, features larger suites, the new Grove Suite Sun Deck, complete with a private pool, jacuzzi, and exclusive Mediterranean dining; and a two-level coastal kitchen with views of AquaDome and the ocean.
In addition to these exciting novelties, the Icon of the Seas stands out as the first ship from Royal Caribbean that can run on liquefied natural gas (LNG), marking a significant step towards sustainability and the commitment to a cleaner and more environmentally friendly future.
With every detail carefully planned, from gastronomy to thrilling attractions, the Icon of the Seas promises to offer passengers an unparalleled cruise experience, where fun and relaxation come together to create lasting memories.
