The Minister of Economy and presidential candidate for Union for the Homeland, Sergio Massa, acknowledged defeat and congratulated the libertarian Javier Milei, whom he described as the "president for the next four years."

He did so from the bunker located at Complex C, prior to the publication of the election results, where he revealed that he and President Alberto Fernández would work on the democratic transition starting tomorrow.

"We have also proposed to the president-elect and the president of the nation the responsibility of starting, tomorrow itself, mechanisms for the link and transition of democratic change so that Argentinians in the next 19 days do not have doubts or uncertainties regarding the normal functioning of the economy, society, politics, and institutions," he explained.

"I want to tell you that obviously the results are not what we expected, and I have communicated with Javier Milei to congratulate him and wish him luck because he is the president that the majority of Argentinians chose," said the official after 8 PM and added, "I did it convinced that the most important thing we have to leave to the Argentinians tonight is the message that coexistence, dialogue, and respect for peace, in the face of so much violence and disqualification, is the best path we can take."

The head of the Treasury also acknowledged that "a stage" in his political life is coming to an end.

"There were two paths. Clearly, we chose the path of defending the security system in the hands of the State. We chose to promote and defend throughout the campaign the path of defending education and public health as central values," he stated.

In the same vein, he specified, "We chose to defend the national industry, Argentine work, our SMEs, and workers with rights because we feel that it is the best way to build prosperity, upward social mobility, and progress for our nation.
