India: PM Modi unveils Netaji statue at Kartavya Path
Another symbol of slavery removed today, says PM Modi at Kartavya Path inauguration.
PM Narendra Modi unveils the statue of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose beneath the canopy near India Gate
Prime Minister Narendra Modi today unveiled the new look of the revamped Central Vista Avenue, the 3km stretch from Rashtrapati Bhavan to India Gate. Made with walkways of red granite, it now has renovated canals, food stalls offering dishes from different states and sales kiosks amidst extensive greenery, parking spaces and much more.
Another symbol of slavery removed today, says PM Modi at Kartavya Path inauguration.
"It is an important and very historic location. So the fact that Netaji’s statue is being put up in this place is a great honour to him. He will be able to watch over the important part of the capital of free India," Anita Bose Pfaff, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose's daughter, told.
"His contributions to the freedom struggle are being recognized in a formal way. But I think he has been in the hearts of so many of his countrymen and countrywomen. This statue will have a symbolic meaning also. It is also a recognition of the Indian National Army. Unfortunately, too few of the veterans are still alive," she said.
