Grenada turns Caribbean romance into a destination experience
Destination weddings, honeymoons, vow renewals, private dinners, sunset sailing and even an underwater wedding are part of Grenada’s growing appeal for couples looking for a different kind of Caribbean escape.
Some destinations are designed for relaxation, while others become part of the memories couples create together. Grenada, known as the Spice of the Caribbean, is also positioning itself as a destination for romance, combining beaches, nature, gastronomy, wellness and experiences designed around couples.
The Grenada Tourism Authority, through its Pure Grenada platform, promotes the island for destination weddings, honeymoons, vow renewals, anniversaries and romantic getaways. One of its signature settings is Grand Anse Beach, where couples can exchange vows against the backdrop of white sand, Caribbean waters and sunset views.
The experience goes beyond a traditional wedding. Grenada offers couples a combination of resorts, restaurants, spas, sailing, nature and culinary experiences that can be woven into a romantic itinerary. The destination's tourism platform highlights everything from long walks along Grand Anse to nature experiences and time spent exploring the island together.
From Grand Anse to an underwater wedding
One of Grenada's most distinctive romantic experiences is found beneath the surface of the Caribbean.
In October 2024, the island hosted its first underwater wedding at the recently installed Grand Mal Underwater Wedding Chapel. U.S. couple Arthur and Kim Miller exchanged vows surrounded by marine life and underwater art, combining romance, diving and adventure in a setting unlike a traditional wedding venue.
The experience adds another dimension to Grenada's appeal as a destination for couples, particularly alongside the island's well-known underwater attractions, including its Underwater Sculpture Park.
Romance with a taste of spice and chocolate
Food is another part of Grenada's romantic identity. The island is known for its spices, particularly nutmeg, as well as its cocoa and chocolate production. The Grenada Tourism Authority highlights chocolate and spice as part of the flavors that can accompany a romantic escape.
For couples, the experience can range from an intimate dinner overlooking the Caribbean to discovering the island's cocoa culture and the aromas and flavors that have earned Grenada its Spice of the Caribbean identity.
Gastronomy can also be combined with wellness and accommodation designed for couples. Pure Grenada promotes a range of resorts and hotels, including properties such as Silversands Grenada, alongside other romantic accommodation options across the island.
Sailing into the sunset
The Caribbean Sea is another central element of Grenada's romantic offering.
Couples can choose from sailing excursions, private charters and sunset experiences. Some operators offer private sunset Champagne cruises and dinner cruises, while other experiences combine sailing with snorkeling around the Underwater Sculpture Park and nearby reefs.
For travelers looking for a more intimate experience, smaller sailing vessels also offer multi-island journeys through the Grenadines, including private cabins and customized itineraries.
A honeymoon that goes beyond the beach
Grenada's romantic proposition is not limited to traditional beach holidays. Couples can combine relaxation with hiking, waterfalls, rainforest experiences, diving, sailing and other soft-adventure activities.
Some properties also offer accommodation specifically designed for honeymooners. At Petite Anse, for example, the Grenadine Rooms are promoted as intimate retreats for couples and honeymooners, featuring spacious interiors, king-size beds and private balconies or terraces overlooking the sea.
A couple can therefore begin the day on a Caribbean beach, explore the island's landscapes, discover its spice and cocoa heritage, sail into the sunset and finish with a private dinner.
Grenada's approach to romantic tourism combines Caribbean scenery, local identity, gastronomy, adventure and personalized experiences. From a wedding on Grand Anse Beach to exchanging vows beneath the Caribbean Sea, the island offers couples different ways to turn a wedding, honeymoon or romantic escape into a lasting travel memory.
