American Airlines Expands Flights and Capacity to Meet Soaring 2026 World Cup Demand
American Airlines is ramping up capacity across North America ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, adding flights and deploying larger aircraft to connect the tournament’s 16 host cities in the United States, Mexico and Canada. The carrier announced it will offer an additional 27,000 seats across a dozen major routes, including Boston–Dallas, Atlanta–Miami and Los Angeles–Seattle, to accommodate the surge in fans expected to travel between match destinations in June and July 2026.
The Dallas-based airline is also introducing new nonstop flights, such as New York LaGuardia (LGA) to Kansas City (MCI) during the Group Stage on June 21–22, and Atlanta (ATL) to Kansas City (MCI) for the quarterfinal round in July. These strategic additions are designed to support the unprecedented flow of international and domestic travelers anticipated for what will be the largest World Cup in history.
“American is ready with its game plan for the FIFA World Cup 26™, adding an extra 27,000 seats on 12 routes this summer,” said Brian Znotins, American’s Senior Vice President of Network Planning. “With more flights to all host cities, we’re making sure fans don’t miss the chance to take part in this once-in-a-lifetime moment across North America.”
