Royal Caribbean has named retired U.S. Air Force General Lori J. Robinson as the official godmother of Legend of the Seas, the company’s newest Icon Class ship, which will arrive in Fort Lauderdale in November to begin its Caribbean itineraries.

The official naming ceremony will take place on November 11, Veterans Day, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The event will mark Legend of the Seas’ arrival in the United States and will bring together General Robinson, Royal Caribbean executives, crew members and guests for a celebration that will also recognize the service of U.S. military veterans, active-duty personnel and their families.

General Robinson spent 37 years in the U.S. Air Force and became the first woman to command a combatant command in the United States Air Force. She later served as commander of NORAD and NORTHCOM, becoming a prominent figure in the U.S. military. Royal Caribbean said her appointment as godmother reflects the maritime tradition of honoring an individual who represents protection and goodwill for the ship, its crew and its guests.

Following its European debut during the summer, Legend of the Seas will be based in Fort Lauderdale and offer six-night Western Caribbean getaways and eight-night Southern Caribbean vacations, including calls at Oranjestad, Aruba, and Willemstad, Curaçao. Every itinerary will also include a visit to Perfect Day at CocoCay, Royal Caribbean’s private destination in The Bahamas.

The ship is designed to offer experiences for families and travelers of different ages, combining adventure, relaxation, dining and entertainment. Legend of the Seas features 28 dining options and seven pools, along with attractions such as Royal Railway – Legend Station, the multi-course Hollywoodland Supper Club and Crown’s Edge, an adventure experience suspended nearly 47 meters above the ocean. Entertainment offerings include America’s Got Talent LIVE and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, inspired by Roald Dahl’s classic story.
