Miches is shaping up as the new tourism development with which the Dominican Republic consolidates its leadership in the Caribbean. Located in the northeast of the country, this small coastal municipality in the province of El Seibo is emerging as a luxury and nature destination, designed to complement and differentiate itself from Punta Cana’s already well-established offering.

During a visit organized by the Ministry of Tourism, Prudencio Ferdinand, national guide of the Dominican Republic Ministry of Tourism, highlighted: “It’s a pleasure to welcome you. We invite you to visit us because you will truly discover an exceptional destination, a treasure in the Caribbean. The Dominican Republic has it all, and Miches is the best example of how we are diversifying our tourism offering beyond Punta Cana.”

A Growing Tourism Development

Miches is already home to four high-end hotels: Club Med Miches Playa Esmeralda, Secrets Playa Esmeralda, Viva Miches, and the recently opened Hotel Zemí Miches. Each brings a unique concept, ranging from all-inclusive luxury to family-friendly and wellness-focused experiences.

But the true value of this emerging destination goes beyond its resorts. The area offers a balance between luxury tourism and authentic local experiences. “Beyond the hotels, visitors can discover unique attractions, such as the Cacao Route in Canducito, where travelers learn about the process of organic cacao production, one of our main export products,” explained Ferdinand.

Untouched Nature and Unique Adventures

Miches stands out for its pristine beaches and unspoiled natural surroundings, in an area that is also free of sargassum. Among its main attractions is Montaña Redonda, a 900-meter-high hill that offers breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean, Laguna Redonda, Laguna El Limón, and the eastern mountain range.

Adventure tourism also thrives here. ATV rides along Costa Esmeralda, hikes through rural trails, culinary experiences with local products such as coconut, and excursions to nearby communities are part of an offering that connects travelers with the Dominican essence.

Economic Impact and Local Community

The tourism development of Miches also represents an opportunity for the local community. “Each project of this magnitude generates jobs and economic growth in the region,” stressed Ferdinand.

Tourism in the Dominican Republic is a key driver of the national economy, accounting for nearly 17% of GDP and serving as one of the main sources of foreign investment. In just the first seven months of 2025, the country welcomed 7,197,844 visitors, an increase of 3.2% compared to 2024, 14% compared to 2023, and 49% compared to 2019—confirming sustained growth and the expectation of closing the year with a historic record in arrivals.

Travel Tips

Reaching Miches is easy: from Punta Cana International Airport, the drive takes approximately an hour and a half. Experts recommend planning at least a week-long stay to fully enjoy the experience: combining world-class resorts with cultural excursions, a visit to Santo Domingo —the Caribbean’s cultural capital—, and outdoor adventures.

A Destination with Identity

Miches presents itself as the new face of Dominican tourism: a place where world-class hotels coexist with the authenticity of its people, traditions, and landscapes.

The Miches experience would not be complete without highlighting the kindness and professionalism of hotel managers and staff, who welcomed our visit warmly at every property. Hospitality in this region stands out for its comfortable accommodations, high-quality services, diverse experiences, and top-tier gastronomy—elements we will cover in detail in upcoming features of this series dedicated to the Dominican Republic.
