The grand opening of Universal Epic Universe on May 22 will change the way people visit Orlando: First look at the new park
Orlando is about to experience a revolution in its entertainment industry with the highly anticipated opening of Universal Epic Universe on May 22, 2025. This new theme park, Universal’s fourth in the city, will not only expand the range of attractions but also transform how visitors plan their trips to the theme park capital of the world.
Until now, a trip to Orlando could last just a few days, allowing tourists to visit the main parks while leaving time for shopping and dining. However, with the arrival of Epic Universe, it is estimated that travelers will now need at least a full week to fully enjoy the experience, adding each of Universal’s four parks to their itinerary and setting aside extra days for relaxation and city exploration.
A visit to the parks in anticipation of Epic Universe
During a recent tour of Universal Orlando Resort, the excitement surrounding Epic Universe was the main topic of conversation among visitors and employees. At every step—whether experiencing iconic attractions like The Incredible Hulk Coaster, the thrilling VelociCoaster, or the immersive world of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter—it became clear that the arrival of the new park will take Orlando’s entertainment scene to an entirely new level.
Special events like Mardi Gras at Universal Studios have also helped build anticipation, with tourists expressing their eagerness to return to Universal Orlando in May to be among the first to explore Epic Universe. "We've visited multiple times, but with the new park opening, we’ll have to extend our trip," said a family from Mexico.
The five worlds of Universal Epic Universe
Universal Epic Universe will introduce an unprecedented experience with five themed worlds that promise to take visitor immersion to the next level:
- Celestial Park: The gateway to Epic Universe, featuring a stunning futuristic aesthetic and a thrilling comet-inspired roller coaster.
- The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic: A magical journey from a Muggle park in Paris to the British Ministry of Magic, offering new attractions and interactive experiences.
- SUPER NINTENDO WORLD: Mario’s iconic green pipe will transport visitors into a colorful, interactive world filled with adventures inspired by Nintendo’s beloved video games.
- How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk: A Viking paradise where guests can soar on the back of a dragon, explore a seaside village, and meet Toothless.
- Dark Universe: A chilling experience set in the world of Universal’s classic monsters, featuring a horror attraction starring Frankenstein.
With over 50 attractions, top-tier dining experiences, and cutting-edge technology, Epic Universe is designed to redefine the theme park experience in Orlando.
A shift in Orlando travel planning
As the opening date approaches, tourists are already reconsidering the length of their trips to the city. Hotels within the resort and in the surrounding areas have reported a surge in bookings, and travel agencies are adjusting their packages to include more days at Universal.
Visitors who previously divided their time between Universal and other Orlando parks are now considering dedicating an entire week to Universal Orlando Resort. "We used to come for three or four days, but with Epic Universe, we know we’ll need at least a week," said a Spanish couple interviewed at CityWalk.
The countdown has begun
The grand opening of Universal Epic Universe on May 22, 2025, is one of the most anticipated entertainment events of the year. Orlando is preparing to welcome millions of visitors eager to explore this new universe of excitement, further cementing its reputation as the ultimate destination for adventure and magic lovers.
