Peru Travel Mart 2024: President Boluarte Highlights Tourism as a Key Driver for the Country's Development
With the presence of the President of the Nation, Dina Boluarte, the 31st edition of Peru Travel Mart 2024 was inaugurated. The event featured the participation of the Minister of Tourism and Foreign Trade, Desilú León, the President of the National Chamber of Tourism (CANATUR), José Koechlin, and Maritza Montero, president of the Organizing Committee. Authorities and press, both national and international, gathered to kick off one of the most important tourism events in the country.
During the ceremony, President Dina Boluarte highlighted the crucial role of tourism as a driving force for Peru's economic and social development. "Tourism is not just a source of income; it is a fundamental engine for our country's progress," emphasized Boluarte, as she welcomed the participants of Peru Travel Mart 2024 with a vibrant "Welcome to Peru."
The president also emphasized the country's rich cultural heritage, referring to the Inca and Chancha civilizations, and highlighted the resilience of the Peruvian people in the face of recent challenges, such as the pandemic. Boluarte noted that, thanks to the collaboration between the private sector and governmental support, Peru expects to close the year with a record of 3.5 million international tourists, solidifying tourism as a key sector for economic recovery and growth.
An Event of International Scope
Maritza Montero, president of Peru Travel Mart 2024, underscored the importance of this event for promoting tourism in Peru. “Our goal is to elevate this event to a global level, showcasing the rich history, gastronomy, and diverse products that Peru has to offer. We want visitors to discover the Coast, Highlands, and Jungle and experience Peruvian hospitality,” Montero stated, stressing the need for close collaboration between the public and private sectors to achieve these objectives.
A Commitment to Sustainable Development
José Koechlin, President of CANATUR, pointed out the potential of tourism to transform Peru's economy. "Tourism is the largest activity in the world, and it should be the same in our country. We have biodiversity, gastronomy, culture, and a unique wealth that can turn Peru into a better place," Koechlin affirmed, emphasizing the importance of working together to create dignified and formal employment, especially in rural areas.
Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Desilú León, also took the stage during the inauguration to highlight the significance of Peru Travel Mart as a platform for positioning Peru in the global market. “Our primary objective is to contribute to the sustainable and decentralized development of our country, and to achieve that, we need the unity of all sectors. I congratulate CANATUR for their outstanding work and wish all participants the greatest success,” León remarked.

Peru Travel Mart 2024 has organized more than 6,000 business meetings over the two days of the event, aiming to generate over 18 million dollars in sales of tourism products and services.
