AN ARMY of thousands of people fleeing a catastrophic crisis are now marching towards the US border — and Donald Trump is not pleased.
FURIOUS and lashing out on Twitter, US President Donald Trump has vowed to stop up to 7000 “illegal aliens” who are edging towards the US border.
Hundreds more Central American migrants joined the massive caravan overnight, overwhelming Mexican Government attempts to stop them at the border.
Their numbers swelled to more than 5000 overnight and at first light they set out walking towards the Mexican town of Tapachula. However, local authorities are reporting that there are now 7000 people taking part in the march north.
Many had crossed the border illegally in recent days by swimming or rafting across the Suchiate River, which separates Guatemala from Mexico.
Thousands of the desperate migrants are understood to be fleeing widespread violence, poverty and corruption in Honduras, where powerful street gangs rule their turf with brutality.
Despite its homicide rate dropping over recent years, Honduras still see 43 murders per 100,000 citizens, making it one of the most violent countries in the world. In comparison, the US homicide rate is 5.3 per 100,000 people.
However, as the migrants edge closer to the US, Mr Trump has to taken to Twitter to launch a scathing attack on his nation’s immigration laws and said he will do everything in his power to stop them.
“The Caravans are a disgrace to the Democrat Party,” he wrote “Change the immigration laws NOW!”
On Thursday, the President tweeted that the caravan was the “Democrats’ fault for weak laws!”
In a separate tweet on Sunday, he wrote: “Full efforts are being made to stop the onslaught of illegal aliens from crossing our Souther (sic) Border.”
