The 2026 Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix confirmed what many inside the paddock had already started to believe: Andrea Kimi Antonelli is no longer simply the future of Formula 1 — he is becoming its present.

The 19-year-old Mercedes driver delivered another commanding performance at the Miami International Autodrome, taking victory after a tense and strategic battle with McLaren’s Lando Norris. The Italian sensation crossed the finish line ahead of Norris, while Oscar Piastri secured third place to complete the podium in a race filled with incidents, overtakes and changing conditions.

Antonelli started from pole position and immediately faced pressure from Norris throughout much of the afternoon. Despite several challenges, including safety car interruptions and aggressive tire strategies from rival teams, the Mercedes driver maintained control and secured his third consecutive Formula 1 victory.

International media outlets highlighted Antonelli’s calmness under pressure and the maturity he displayed defending his lead during the final stages of the race. The win further strengthens his lead in the 2026 Drivers’ Championship and confirms Mercedes as the dominant force of the early season.

Miami once again transformed into the global center of motorsport and celebrity culture. Thousands of fans packed the circuit while stars from sports, entertainment and music filled the paddock throughout the weekend. Lionel Messi’s appearance before the race generated enormous excitement among fans and media, adding even more attention to one of Formula 1’s most glamorous events.

The race itself began with immediate drama. Max Verstappen spun during the opening lap chaos and lost several positions before recovering to finish fifth. An early Safety Car, triggered after incidents involving Pierre Gasly and Isack Hadjar, reshaped race strategies and intensified the battle between Mercedes and McLaren.

Ferrari experienced another difficult afternoon. Charles Leclerc crossed the line sixth after struggling with tire degradation late in the race, while Lewis Hamilton finished seventh.

One of the positive stories of the weekend came from Argentine driver Franco Colapinto, who finished eighth for Alpine and added valuable points in the championship standings, continuing his adaptation to the demands of Formula 1.
