OREM, Utah — September 11, 2025 — Charlie Kirk, 31, conservative activist and co-founder of Turning Point USA, was fatally shot on September 10 during a campus event at Utah Valley University. Presently, authorities confirm no suspect is in custody, and the investigation remains active amid significant confusion in early reports.

According to dispatch audio and eyewitness reports, the shooter fired from a rooftop approximately 200 yards away from the podium where Kirk was speaking, roughly 20 minutes into his remarks. The suspect was described wearing all-black tactical gear including a helmet and aviator-style glasses.

Kirk was struck in the neck, rushed to a hospital, and later confirmed dead. Initial arrests of two individuals were made but they were released after being cleared of involvement.

Utah Governor Spencer Cox called the act a political assassination, though motive is unverified. Social media footage capturing the event has circulated widely, intensifying scrutiny over political violence by public figures and campus free speech debates.

Kirk, with roots in youth conservative politics and a large online presence, had become a polarizing figure. He is survived by his wife, Erika Frantzve, and two young children.

As of today, none of the detained persons remain in custody for Kirk’s killing. Authorities are asking the public for information—video, photos, or witness testimony—as they seek to bring the shooter to justice.

Details of the Attacker
A person of interest was described as wearing full tactical black gear, including a tactical helmet, mask, possibly a vest, a long gun, and aviator goggles.

Witnesses reported the shooter fired from a nearby building about 200 yards from where Kirk was speaking, roughly 20 minutes after his speech began.

Status of Suspect / Recent Arrests
Although initial reports indicated someone had been detained, those individuals were later released after authorities determined they were not connected to the assassination.

As of now, no confirmed suspect is in custody. The search continues.

Authorities have not yet disclosed a clear motive.

Utah Governor Spencer Cox described the attack as an act of “political assassination.”

The event where the shooting occurred was part of “The American Comeback Tour,” specifically during a public “Prove Me Wrong” debate at Utah Valley University.
