The Barbados Food and Rum Festival will take place from November 5 to 8, 2026, showcasing traditional cuisine, culinary creativity, local and international chefs, and experiences inspired by one of the island’s most iconic products.

Barbados is preparing to celebrate its culinary identity with a new edition of the Barbados Food and Rum Festival, taking place from November 5 to 8 as part of the celebrations marking the country’s 60th anniversary of independence. The event invites visitors to discover the island through its flavours, rum-making heritage and the talent of chefs who are reinterpreting traditional cuisine while preserving its roots.

The festival aims to connect Barbadian culinary traditions with contemporary techniques, international influences and inventive interpretations of familiar recipes. Local specialties include grilled fish, saltfish dishes and roasted breadfruit, an ingredient deeply rooted in the island’s food culture. Participating chefs will highlight these ingredients and traditions through culinary experiences that bring visitors closer to Barbados’ history and cultural identity.

The programme features events across the island, including Oistins Under the Stars, a celebration of street food and music; culinary demonstrations featuring international chefs; Rum Route, an experience exploring the history and culture of rum; Rise & Rum, a sunrise gathering by the sea; and Liquid Gold Feast, an event combining creative cuisine and cocktails. Together, these activities offer visitors different ways to experience Barbados, from traditional fish stalls to more elaborate gastronomic encounters.

Rum plays a central role in the celebration because of its historical connection to the sugar industry and its importance to Barbadian identity. Internationally recognised for its rum production, the island incorporates the spirit into its social traditions, cultural heritage and tourism offering. Through tastings, mixology and food pairings, the festival aims to showcase new ways of enjoying rum while introducing travellers to the people and traditions behind its production.

With this edition, Barbados strengthens its position as a destination for culinary tourism, using food as a gateway to its cultural heritage. The 60th anniversary of independence adds special significance to an event that encourages travellers to explore the island beyond its beaches and discover the flavours, stories and people that shape its identity.
