Greater Fort Lauderdale will host the premiere of a new documentary series honoring the Black community's role in shaping the region's history and culture. Visit Lauderdale announced that "Black in Broward" will debut on Tuesday, July 28, at the African-American Research Library and Cultural Center, bringing together five short films and a community conversation with the people featured in them.

The screening, scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m., will take place at the library's location at 2650 Sistrunk Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale. The event opens with a networking reception before moving into exclusive premiere screenings of the documentary series, which spotlights the people, places and cultural influences that have shaped Greater Fort Lauderdale.

Following the screenings, attendees will take part in a moderated conversation with the featured storytellers, led by Neki Mohan, Vice President of Business Development and Community Engagement at Visit Lauderdale. The evening will close with an audience Q&A session, giving guests the chance to engage directly with the voices behind the series.

Organizers describe "Black in Broward" as a project built to honor legacies that continue to define the community while inspiring future generations. The series pairs archival storytelling with firsthand testimony, aiming to give a fuller picture of the cultural contributions that have gone into building the identity of Greater Fort Lauderdale.

The venue itself carries symbolic weight: the African-American Research Library and Cultural Center has long served as a hub for preserving Black history in Broward County, making it a fitting site for the series' first public showing.
