Sacred River: The New Jewel of Adventure Tourism at Bávaro Adventure Park in Punta Cana
Punta Cana is experiencing a before-and-after moment in its tourism offer with the inauguration of Sacred River, the first underground river in the Dominican Republic. Located at Bávaro Adventure Park, this project redefines responsible adventure tourism by combining environmental innovation, cultural authenticity, and an unprecedented investment in the region.
What began as a chance discovery beneath the park has transformed into a mystical revelation. Hidden under the earth lay a mirror-like body of water that has now become the emotional and strategic heart of Bávaro Adventure Park. Sacred River is not simply a new attraction: it is the future of adventure tourism in the Caribbean.
An immersive, sensory experience
Opened just a few weeks ago, Sacred River invites visitors to explore 350 meters of crystal-clear underground river in a unique natural setting. The experience includes the Blue Lagoon Cenote, the Jungle River, a waterfall pool, a botanical maze, and the Dominican Village, where guests can sample traditional products such as chocolate, coffee, mamajuana, and cigars.
This concept seeks to give every visitor a transformational journey, in direct contact with nature and the Dominican Republic’s cultural roots. The offer also includes round-trip hotel transportation, professional guides, and a typical Dominican lunch to complete the day.
Innovation and benchmarking with Mexico
Sacred River draws inspiration from the famous underground rivers of Xcaret (Mexico), which since 1990 have become icons of adventure tourism with millions of annual visitors. In Punta Cana, Bávaro Adventure Park adapts that vision to its own context, aiming to double attendance and position the Dominican destination as a benchmark for authentic and sustainable experiences.
A before and after for Punta Cana
For ABC Mundial, which visited the site shortly before its official opening, Sacred River is more than an attraction: it represents a new tourism paradigm integrating nature, culture, and sustainability. This project will not only strengthen Punta Cana’s offer but also set trends throughout the Caribbean region.
