Tragedy at Universal Orlando: Guest dies on Stardust Racers roller coaster at Epic Universe
A tragic incident shook Universal Orlando on Wednesday when a guest died after riding the Stardust Racers roller coaster at the new Epic Universe theme park in Florida. The victim has been identified as 32-year-old Kevin Rodriguez Zavala.
According to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, off-duty deputies at the park responded to an emergency call reporting an “unresponsive man.” The guest was immediately transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The Orange County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed that the cause of death was “multiple blunt impact injuries” and ruled the case an accident.
Stardust Racers, one of Epic Universe’s most anticipated rides since its May debut, remained closed on Thursday as investigations continued. A significant law enforcement presence, including forensic teams and crime scene vans, was seen at the attraction’s loading area.
In an official statement, Universal Orlando expressed its devastation and extended condolences to the victim’s family and loved ones, stating the park is fully cooperating with authorities to determine what happened.
Epic Universe, which opened earlier this year with themed lands such as Nintendo World and the Ministry of Magic from The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, quickly became a major Florida attraction. However, this unfortunate incident has cast a shadow over the park’s early success and raised concerns about safety on high-speed rides.
Authorities have not yet announced when the ride will reopen as safety reviews and the investigation continue.
