Fort Lauderdale: Renovation of the Broward County Convention Center Advances Ahead of IPW 2026
The ambitious expansion and modernization project of the Broward County Convention Center is entering its decisive phase. With just one year to go before it hosts IPW 2026, the most important tourism trade show in the United States, the city is preparing to welcome thousands of industry professionals with state-of-the-art infrastructure, world-class services, and a strong commitment to sustainability.
The transformation of the convention center—strategically located next to Port Everglades and just minutes from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport—includes the completion of 350,000 ft² of additional exhibit space, a new waterfront ballroom, a six-acre outdoor plaza, and a 29-story OMNI hotel with 801 rooms, scheduled to open by the end of 2025.
According to official sources, the expansion is expected to generate over $450 million annually for the local economy and create more than 3,000 jobs in the region, solidifying Fort Lauderdale as a leading meetings and events destination in South Florida.
In addition, the complex is on track for LEED Gold certification, incorporating sustainable technologies, enhanced energy efficiency, and a new access road—Port Bypass Road—that will ease traffic from I-95 directly into the complex.
IPW 2026: A Strategic Milestone
The selection of Fort Lauderdale as the host city for IPW 2026, organized by the U.S. Travel Association, represents a historic opportunity. It will be the first time the event is held in the city, and its projected economic impact exceeds $14.2 billion. For an entire week, international buyers, tour operators, destinations, airlines, hotels, and travel media will converge in a fully reimagined environment.
Recent events such as Seatrade Cruise Global and the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show have already showcased the city's capacity to host world-class gatherings, but IPW will take it to a whole new level.
Tourism, Sustainability, and Connectivity
The new Broward County Convention Center is not only bigger but greener. With seamless integration into the natural surroundings, a focus on sustainable mobility, and easy connectivity to hotels, restaurants, and local attractions, attendees are guaranteed a comprehensive and efficient experience.
The transformation also includes open public areas, relaxation gardens, canal views, and cutting-edge technology, elevating the experience not only for trade shows but also for cultural events, medical congresses, and corporate meetings.
A New Chapter for Fort Lauderdale
This expansion project places Fort Lauderdale at the center of the international tourism scene. But more than an architectural upgrade, it is a statement of intent—a vision of how major events should integrate with urban development, environmental sustainability, and the promotion of smart destinations.
The countdown to IPW 2026 has begun, and Fort Lauderdale is ready to shine on the global stage.
