Major changes are transforming the landscape of Fort Lauderdale thanks to the ambitious expansion project of the Broward County Convention Center. This endeavor, which marks a turning point for the city and its metropolitan community, includes the installation of arches, ongoing interior details, and rapid progress in the design of an outdoor plaza. All of this aims to capture Fort Lauderdale’s energy and enhance the event experience in the region.

A Transformative Project

The first phase of the highly anticipated $1.3 billion expansion project has already been completed. This initial stage has added 800,000 square feet to the center, extending the main exhibition halls and loading areas. However, the improvements don’t stop here. In 2025, the center will grow even further with an additional 1.2 million square feet, including a new expansive waterfront plaza, an open-air amphitheater, and a 29-story Omni Fort Lauderdale headquarters hotel directly connected to the convention center.

Expansion Highlights:

  • A 65,000-square-foot ballroom overlooking the Intracoastal Waterway.
  • Luxury headquarters hotel with 801 rooms operated by Omni Hotels, connected to the campus.
  • Upgraded facilities with advanced technologies, multifunctional spaces, and modern decor reflecting the essence of Fort Lauderdale.
  • Outdoor spaces complemented by innovative dining concepts and an urban green area.
  • Gold LEED-certified buildings ensuring environmentally responsible practices without compromising luxury or comfort.

A World-Class Event: IPW 2026

For the first time, Greater Fort Lauderdale will host IPW, the largest international tourism event in the United States, organized by the U.S. Travel Association. This prominent gathering, to be held from May 17–21, 2026, will bring together hundreds of travel enthusiasts, buyers, journalists, and tourism officials from over 60 countries.

The event, to take place at the renovated Broward County Convention Center, is expected to generate more than $14.2 billion in economic impact for the region over the next three years. Additionally, it is anticipated to attract 6,000 attendees, generate over 20,000 room nights, and create 3,500 jobs.

Benefits of Hosting IPW

  • Direct economic impact of $14.2 billion.
  • $1.1 billion in consumer spending over the next three years.
  • Significant increase in hotel occupancy and tourism revenues.

The expansion of the Broward County Convention Center and the hosting of IPW 2026 not only position Fort Lauderdale as a world-class event hub but also as a vibrant and diverse destination offering something for everyone under the sun.
