LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (August, 2024) — Walt Disney World Resort is set to undergo an unprecedented transformation with new attractions and lands across its four theme parks, as announced at the D23 Expo in Anaheim, California.
Historic Expansion at Magic Kingdom
Magic Kingdom Park is preparing for its largest expansion in history, starting with a reimagined section of Frontierland inspired by Pixar's Cars. This area will feature two new attractions, including a thrilling rally race with iconic characters like Lightning McQueen and Tow Mater, transforming the current Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island into rugged terrains.
Beyond Big Thunder Mountain, a new land dedicated to Disney Villains will offer two major attractions, dining, and shopping experiences, bringing fan-favorite wicked characters to life in a creatively dark and mysterious setting.
New Adventures at Disney’s Animal Kingdom
Disney’s Animal Kingdom will introduce an 11-acre land themed around the Tropical Americas, featuring Pueblo Esperanza. This vibrant area will include a Mayan temple adventure with Indiana Jones, an Encanto-themed attraction, and a carousel with intricately carved animals. Work on this new land begins in fall 2024, with an expected opening in 2027.
Additionally, a new Zootopia show titled “Zootopia: Better Zoogether!” will debut in the Tree of Life theater, offering guests an immersive journey through different biomes alongside beloved characters like Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde.
Innovations at Disney’s Hollywood Studios
Disney’s Hollywood Studios will introduce an all-new Monsters, Inc. land, featuring the first-ever suspended coaster at a Disney park. Set after the events of the movie, guests can join Mike and Sulley in a laughter-powered adventure through Monstropolis.
Meanwhile, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will offer a new mission for Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, incorporating characters from The Mandalorian, timed with the release of their new movie in 2026.
Exciting Developments at EPCOT
EPCOT will see a reimagined Test Track presented by Chevrolet, highlighting the evolution of mobility. The queue will celebrate innovative vehicles and inventors, leading to a scenic ride that captures the joy of driving.
Additionally, a new Pirates of the Caribbean-themed tavern will open in Adventureland at Magic Kingdom in 2025, along with a new lounge inspired by Spaceship Earth at EPCOT, offering elegant spaces for relaxation and refreshment.
