"Outbound tourism shows significant growth with 2.2 million Colombians leaving the country between January and May 2024, marking an 11% increase compared to the same period the previous year," said Paula Cortés Calle, Executive President of ANATO.

Between January and May 2024, 2.2 million Colombians traveled abroad, marking an 11% increase compared to the same period in 2023. In May alone, there were 456,000 departures, representing a 12% increase over the same month last year.

"Outbound tourism reminds us that the sector is not only an economic activity but also a tool for knowledge. With the current flow of air routes in Colombia, combined with the diverse offerings from travel agencies, we are enabling more travelers to immerse themselves in destinations outside the country," explained Paula Cortés Calle, Executive President of ANATO.

The data also shows a significant increase in trips for events and business purposes, with a growth of 25%, and tourism, which grew by 15% compared to the same period last year. These three reasons accounted for 63% of the total flow of Colombians traveling abroad.

The current strong outbound tourism figures demonstrate Colombians' interest in discovering the authenticity of different cultures, landscapes, and local flavors, as well as enriching themselves with new experiences in other countries.

"The results reflect the recovery that corporate travel has had globally, standing out as a strategic tool for business growth and expansion in a globalized and competitive environment, while also enjoying the attractions and traditions of a destination," stated the trade union leader.

With these results, ANATO reaffirms its commitment to continue promoting outbound tourism and providing Colombians with more opportunities to explore the world, thus contributing to the country's economic and cultural development.
