Sacramento: The California Gold Rush City Now Offers a Unique Blend of Gastronomy, History, and Culture
At IPW in Los Angeles, we had the opportunity to talk with Lilly Cortes Wyatt, Media Representative for Visit Sacramento, who revealed why this city is an unmissable destination. Known as the Farm-to-Fork Capital, Sacramento offers a unique blend of gastronomy, history, culture, and outdoor activities.
"The most attractive thing about Sacramento is that we are recognized as the Farm-to-Fork Capital," says Cortes Wyatt. With over 15 Michelin-starred restaurants and a restaurant that has been a finalist for the prestigious James Beard Award, Sacramento has positioned itself as a top culinary destination. The city annually hosts a Farm-to-Fork festival that attracts food enthusiasts from across the country, offering a gastronomic experience that highlights the freshness and quality of local products.
Sacramento is a city full of history. "Many people don't know that Sacramento is the capital of California," comments Cortes Wyatt. From the Old Sacramento Waterfront, which evokes the Gold Rush era, to the California State Railroad Museum and the Sacramento History Museum, the city invites visitors to explore its fascinating past. "We are full of museums, with over 15 in downtown Sacramento and more than 100 in the region," she adds. Every corner of Sacramento tells a story, from the early settlers to its evolution as a vibrant cultural center.
Sacramento is a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts. "We have outdoor activities ranging from kayaking on the American River to cycling on the American River Parkway," highlights Cortes Wyatt. The picturesque parks and riverfront trails offer perfect spots for picnics and walks. Additionally, the proximity to the Sierra Nevada mountains provides more options for adventurers. "Although it gets hot in the summer, the delta breeze from the Sacramento River cools the air, making it feel very pleasant," she comments.
Sacramento is not only ideal for solo travelers but also for families and diverse audiences. "We are one of the three most diverse cities in the country," emphasizes Cortes Wyatt, noting the rich cultural mix that defines the city. In addition to its vibrant sports scene with teams like the Sacramento Kings (NBA) and the Sacramento Republic FC (soccer), the city offers a variety of activities that cater to all tastes and ages.
Lilly Cortes Wyatt concludes with an open invitation: "Come visit Sacramento, discover how full of history the capital is, and see how Latinos have contributed to making Sacramento the city it is today." With its rich gastronomic offerings, historical heritage, and numerous outdoor activity options, Sacramento presents itself as a unique and ideal destination for everyone.
