Greater Fort Lauderdale Gears Up for ICC T20 Men’s World Cup
Visit Lauderdale, the official destination marketing organization for Greater Fort Lauderdale, is eagerly preparing to host the International Cricket Council (ICC) T20 Men’s World Cup at Broward County Stadium this summer.
Visit Lauderdale is thrilled to announce that the ICC T20 Men’s World Cup is coming to the Broward County Stadium this summer. To kick off the excitement, a huge 400-pound, 8-foot replica of the ICC T20 World Cup cricket ball was displayed at Las Olas Oceanside Park this afternoon. Locals were able to meet USA Cricket Vice Captain, Aaron Jones, Broward County Commissioner, Hazelle Rogers, and even play with the giant cricket ball!
To herald the impending cricket season and spark excitement, a monumental 400-pound, 8-foot tall replica of the ICC T20 World Cup cricket ball will take center stage at Las Olas Oceanside Park, situated at 3000 E. Las Olas Blvd., Fort Lauderdale.
Local cricket aficionados are in for a treat with a special meet and greet session featuring USA Cricket Vice Captain, Aaron Jones, and Broward County Commissioner, Hazelle Rogers. Moreover, attendees will have the opportunity to engage in interactive play with the colossal cricket ball before it makes its way to Broward County Stadium, located at 3700 NW 11th Place, Lauderhill, where the highly anticipated cricket matches will take place come June.
This milestone event marks the inaugural occasion that the world’s second most-watched sport will grace the United States with its prestigious World Cup matches. The event is expected to attract a substantial influx of over 45,000 visitors to the Greater Fort Lauderdale area, underscoring the region’s emergence as a premier destination for global sporting events.
Expressing pride and gratitude for the selection, Stacy Ritter, president and CEO of Visit Lauderdale, remarked, “It is an honor to be chosen as one of the locations in the United States to host the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup which will welcome teams from Africa, the Americas, Asia, East Asia Pacific, and Europe. Since the Broward County Stadium was the first ICC-sanctioned stadium in the U.S., we’re proud to see it thrive as a place where champions practice and play to win.”
ICC T20 World Cup Matches:
The ICC T20 World Cup will consist of 55 matches, with 16 played in the U.S., and four at Broward County Stadium:
Tuesday, June 11, 2024: Sri Lanka vs. Nepal
Friday, June 14, 2024: USA vs. Ireland
Saturday, June 15, 2024: India vs. Canada
Sunday, June 16, 2024: Pakistan vs. Ireland
