Pompano Beach is emerging as a thriving tourist destination in Greater Fort Lauderdale
Pompano Beach, once a quaint town north of Fort Lauderdale, has undergone a remarkable transformation in the past five years, evolving into a bustling tourist destination. The city's strategic investments in infrastructure, particularly the renovation of its pier, have driven an increase in tourism, attracting visitors with a plethora of new hotels, restaurants, and attractions.
Weekends in Pompano Beach are now vibrant and lively, providing a variety of options to savor exquisite cuisine. A stroll along the revitalized pier reveals a scene of high-quality bars and restaurants, creating the perfect ambiance for relaxation. On solid ground, the city boasts an excellent culinary scene, an antique shopping center, and even a Harrah's Hotel and Casino.
Rita Wells, Tourism Marketing Manager for the City of Pompano Beach, emphasized the importance of the pier's revitalization and the growing number of hotels and restaurants. She highlighted Pompano Beach as an ideal not only for day trips but also as a vacation destination.
A major draw for diving enthusiasts is Shipwreck Park, an underwater paradise just a mile off the coast. This sunken art-adorned underwater graveyard is one of North America's most accessible dive sites, catering to divers of all levels. The park, funded by a nonprofit organization, aims to expand its offerings, provide new habitats for marine life, and alleviate pressure on nearby natural reefs.
A must-visit is the unique underwater casino, which annually hosts a submerged poker game. Our visit also included breakfast at the charming How You Brewin' Coffee Company, just steps from the pier, and exploration of the Fishing Village, Promenade, and Fisher Family Pier. Lunch at Beach House Pompano, with its waterfront setting, offered an unparalleled culinary experience. Baresco, a Mexican restaurant and bar, and two Hilton chain hotels, Home2 Suites/Tru by Hilton & Pier 6 Rooftop, are just a few steps away.
A few miles away, golf enthusiasts can enjoy Top Golf, located in front of the Harrah's Pompano Beach Hotel and Casino.
Caitlan Etchevers, Business and Global Travel Trade Manager of Visit Lauderdale, commented: "In recent years, Pompano Beach has experienced significant growth. New shops, restaurants, and attractions have emerged, transforming it from a quiet beach town to a bustling destination. The city has made substantial efforts to widen and enhance its beaches, ensuring a diverse range of hotels and a vibrant culinary scene, including fresh seafood, Mexican cuisine, American dishes, and breweries."
Pompano Beach has become a multifaceted haven, offering a blend of cultural, recreational, and culinary experiences for both locals and visitors.
