The travel industry has mobilized to assist Los Angeles in the wake of destructive wildfires that have ravaged over 9,000 structures. Hotels, airlines, home-sharing platforms, and transportation services are uniting to provide aid to affected residents and first responders.

Hotels Offer Shelter and Supplies

The Hotel Association of Los Angeles (HALA) reports that over 70 hotels are offering discounted rates and essential supplies to evacuees, including toiletries and bedding. Pet-friendly hotels such as Hilton Irvine Orange County Airport and the Mission Inn Hotel & Spa are also accommodating displaced individuals and their pets.

“We are devastated by the destruction across Los Angeles,” said HALA’s Board of Directors. “Our hotels are providing discounted stays and necessities to evacuees, ensuring they have the essentials during this crisis.”

Home-Sharing Platforms Step Up

Airbnb is offering free temporary housing in collaboration with the nonprofit 211 LA, while VRBO is issuing refunds for reservations in fire-affected areas. Both platforms aim to alleviate the immediate needs of displaced individuals.

Airlines and Transportation Services Contribute

Delta Air Lines has pledged $1 million to the American Red Cross for wildfire relief efforts, complementing its existing disaster relief initiatives. Lyft is providing free rides to shelters, with promo codes offering two rides worth up to $25 each for evacuees.

Tourism Board Support

The Los Angeles Tourism and Convention Board has emphasized the safety of residents and visitors, offering resources and updates on its website. It also reassured the public that key transportation hubs like Los Angeles International Airport and the Port of Los Angeles remain operational.

Community Resilience

Signature Travel Network and Family Bonds Foundation are working to support industry members impacted by the fires, including those who have lost homes.

“Our hearts go out to everyone affected,” said Lyft Social Impact Manager Celia Moreno. “Lyft is committed to providing access to reliable transportation, especially in emergencies.”

The collective efforts of the travel industry exemplify a unified response to an unprecedented crisis, showcasing resilience and solidarity in the face of adversity.
