Vietnam celebrates the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Dien Bien Phu: From historic victory to current development
Interview with the Ambassador of Vietnam on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Dien Bien Phu.
Just a few days before commemorating the seventieth anniversary of the Battle of Dien Bien Phu, the Ambassador of Vietnam to Argentina, Ngo Minh Nguyet, highlighted the enduring significance of this milestone in her country's history and the progress made since then.
May 7, 1954, marked a turning point in the Vietnamese people's struggle against French colonial domination, when the Viet Minh forces, under the leadership of General Nguyên Giàp, achieved a decisive victory over the invading troops at Dien Bien Phu. This historic event not only symbolized the determination and bravery of the Vietnamese people but also triggered a series of transformations that would shape the nation's future.
In her remarks, Ambassador Ngo Minh Nguyet emphasized Vietnam's growth and consolidation in the decades following the battle. She highlighted the country's rapid and sustainable development, as well as the strength of the Communist Party of Vietnam and the socialist regime. The words of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong resonate with pride as he asserts that Vietnam has never before enjoyed such a privileged position in the international community as it does today.
Vietnam has maintained a firm stance in promoting peace, defending its national sovereignty, and fostering friendly and cooperative relations with other nations. The country's national defense policy has been closely integrated with other key aspects of development, such as the economy, culture, and foreign relations.
The ambassador also emphasized the crucial role of the Communist Party of Vietnam and President Ho Chi Minh in leading the resistance against French colonial invasion, as well as in the subsequent unification of the country following the war against the United States. The victory at Dien Bien Phu, she underscored, demonstrated that even a country with limited resources could overcome an enemy with greater economic and military potential, as long as it was led by a party committed to correct policies and strategies.
The victory at Dien Bien Phu not only ended French colonial rule in Vietnam but also inspired other oppressed peoples around the world to fight for their independence and freedom. The legacy of this battle, along with other subsequent victories, has made Vietnam a symbol of resistance and struggle for national liberation worldwide.
As Vietnam commemorates the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Dien Bien Phu, the country looks forward with determination, committed to building a future of prosperity, unity, and continuous development on the foundations of its glorious revolutionary past.
