Since opening up to tourism in 2019, the country has gone from receiving 16.7 million tourists in 2022 to a surprising 9 million in just the first quarter of 2023

Saudi Arabia, known as the world's new emerging tourist destination, is experiencing unprecedented growth in its tourism industry. Since opening up to tourism in 2019, the country has gone from receiving 16.7 million tourists in 2022 to a staggering 9 million in just the first quarter of 2023.

This impressive tourism boom is the result of "Vision 2030," led by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz. This vision includes transformative projects that are radically changing the nation.

Gloria Guevara Manzo, Chief Advisor to the Minister of Tourism of Saudi Arabia, Ahmed Al Khateeb, highlights that these projects are having a transformative impact on the country's economy. Tourism, which currently accounts for less than 3% of Saudi Arabia's GDP, is on track to reach 10% by 2030, driving economic diversification and reducing reliance on oil.

One of the most notable projects is "The Line," a state-of-the-art sustainable city spanning 170 kilometers and accommodating one million residents. "The Line" will be a symbol of technological innovation and sustainability.

Another flagship project is the restoration of Diriyah, a historic site being transformed into a top-tier cultural and tourist destination.

Furthermore, Guevara Manzo emphasizes the Saudi government's commitment to gender equality. Women in Saudi Arabia now enjoy greater freedom and opportunities, including the ability to travel alone, drive cars, and access high-level jobs. Laws have also been implemented to ensure equal pay.

Saudi Arabia is establishing tourism relationships with various nations, including those in Europe, Asia, and Latin America, with a particular focus on Mexico as a cultural destination and projects involving Latin America.

The advisor highlights the country's efforts to harness tourism as a new economic engine. Airports and airlines are being constructed, and significant growth in the number of domestic and international visitors is expected. The vision includes creating one million jobs.

Saudi Arabia is diversifying its economy and transforming into a top-tier tourist destination while advancing women's rights and promoting gender equality. This Gulf nation is positioning itself as an emerging tourist destination and economic powerhouse on the world stage.

"There is no tolerance for abuse of women here, no tolerance for violations; it is a severe offense that is punished very harshly. In this city, women can walk alone at any time, anywhere they want, and the safest cities in the world are in this country," she said.
