Artificial intelligence is a wild tool, and dangerous uses are beginning to emerge, where reckless and, above all, criminal behaviors are being committed. Some examples can be cited, such as the creation of fake videos with statements attributed to famous individuals who never made them, through the synchronization of fake images and audio that simulate authenticity but are actually just "fake news."
Artificial intelligence is truly powerful and offers numerous utilities thanks to technological advancements that have made it accessible to anyone. However, advancements often come with challenges, representing the two sides of a coin that, when tossed in the air, one never knows how it will land.
For now, artificial intelligence is a wild tool, and dangerous uses are beginning to emerge, where reckless and, above all, criminal behaviors are being committed. Some examples can be cited, such as the creation of fake videos with statements attributed to famous individuals who never made them, through the synchronization of fake images and audio that simulate authenticity but are actually just "fake news."
Imagine the risk posed by this use of AI. What could happen if one or more malicious individuals were to invent that a world leader incites hatred, declares war on another country, or promotes a violent social reaction through entirely fake multimedia material that is then disseminated uncontrollably on social media? The result is predictable, and there is no need to go into details.
However, this device can not only be employed by global leaders or public figures but also by ordinary citizens seeking to damage the reputation, honor, right to privacy, moral integrity, or other legally reprehensible behaviors of other individuals in their daily lives.
Recently, in Spain, a news story has gained a lot of prominence. It concerns the appearance and dissemination of fake photographs of dozens of girls living in Almendralejo, a municipality in the province of Badajoz. These images were edited using artificial intelligence, adding naked bodies to the real faces of the girls to create false images. The perpetrators of this crime shared this content in WhatsApp groups after unsuccessfully attempting to extort the victims, forcing them to pay to prevent the dissemination of this abhorrent content.
Finally, one of the victims revealed what had happened to her mother, who filed a complaint that is now in the hands of local authorities.
Artificial intelligence is advancing rapidly, surpassing the rules that should be applied to its use. This gap must be closed so that organized crime does not benefit from a tool that was not created to cause harm.
