Catalonia ends the ban on 'topless' in public swimming pools

In Catalonia this summer you can go topless in any public pool. The Generalitat has sent a letter to all the municipalities to remind them that "the prohibition of women from using the facilities with a bare torso, which is known as 'topless', constitutes discrimination", as does not allowing access to those who opt for "a swimsuit that covers more parts of their body", such as the integral swimsuit or 'burkini'.

Catalonia will allow this summer to go 'topless' in any public pool. This has been made known by the Generalitat to all the consistories, to which it has sent a letter prohibiting the application of any public ordinance that prevents this practice.

Both the Government and the Ministry of Equality and Feminism have told all the town halls that not allowing 'topless' in these facilities constitutes discrimination".

Many of the complaints filed against town halls where toplessness has not been allowed have been from members of a feminist group called Mugrons Lliures.
