Trump's immigration plans: start by deporting 3 million criminals
Speaking to 60 Minutes, president-elect says Mexico border wall would partially consist of fencing: "I’m very good at this. It’s called construction"
The wall might become a fence in some spots, but President-elect Donald Trump said Sunday he’s going to deport at least 2 million undocumented immigrants as soon as he takes office in January.
In a wide-ranging interview, his first televised sit-down since his election win last week, Trump softened on his stance to secure the border with a much-ballyhooed wall, but he renewed his campaign pledge to kick out undocumented immigrants — starting with those who have committed crimes.
“What we are going to do is get the people that are criminal and have criminal records, gang members, drug dealers, where a lot of these people, probably 2 million, it could be even 3 million, we are getting them out of our country or we are going to incarcerate,” Trump told CBS’ “60 Minutes” in an interview that aired Sunday night.
“But we’re getting them out of our country, they’re here illegally,” he said, adding that only after that would he secure the border and “make a determination” on the millions of other immigrants in the U.S. illegally.
