We are now entering into a new phase of the global economy by the hand of the technology advance, of the artificial intelligence and a more virtual reality day after day
When we talk about Latin America, it comes to mind what is usually seen in the media, where it is talked about several stagnant economies except the Pacific Alliance which are the fastest growing ones in the region: Peru, Chile, Colombia and Mexico. If several economic analysts of Latin America are consulted about our region they will argue that Latin America is not important for United States, that it is irrelevant perhaps, and that it is not strategic. There is the Middle East, Europe, and Central Asia due to oil and gas between this world’s power preference order, whereas in the best case, Latin America is in fifth place. It is often heard in the speeches of politicians in our region we must continue to follow what US dictates in order to grow because otherwise we are not integrated into the world economy making it impossible to overcome underdevelopment. ¿Who will not have heard anyone in our country or region exclaim that wants to go to Europe or North American continent where the future is, where life is better, where are the best opportunities to work or to develop oneself, etc.?
Now, ¿Do you know what was the first doctrine elaborated by the US about foreign policy after becoming an independent country of the the British Empire? It is the doctrine of James Monroe in 1823, the Battle of Ayacucho had not produced until occurred in 1824 that was the final push to South America independence from the Spanish crown. You could say that this was a coincidence, but it was not, as the other foreign policy doctrine took longer to be developed by US President Wilson in 1918, but that was reflected by what was happening in Europe by World War I, the Russian Revolution, the fall of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, the collapse of the German Empire and the fall of Czarism, etc. That's when President Wilson spoke about the Union of Nations, progress, among other things. It passed nearly a century the US government to develop a foreign policy doctrine and the first one was about Latin America and when World War II ended, one might think that when the power expanded the Soviet Union got consolidated its power in Central Europe, one might conclude that at that time the United States would sign a military treaty with the North Atlantic, but it was not until 1949. Two years earlier USA signed a military treaty that covers the western hemisphere before signing the agreement that gave rise to NATO.
All this leaves us thinking the above-mentioned, on those who do not value the continent we have although until even the United States took it into account to make a doctrine, or those who do not see the possibility nor the way our brothers countries generate more regional synergy having to be at the mercy of countries such as the United States. But here's another not less point to consider, the natural resources which will mark the future in the next 10-20 years, for example Latin America and especially South America have the largest amount of potable water in the world and 35% of freshwater reserves on the planet, without taking into account the Guarani Aquifer which begins in the south of the Amazon and is between Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay which is known is not the first aquifer of the world. In fact, the first one is the Siberian aquifer but it does not have infinite reproduction as the Guarani one has, since it is the only one which reproduces infinitely water recharge. To give an idea of what we're talking about, it is said that by second the Amazon River reproduces more water to the ocean than the River Thames in England. Additionally, many people believe Saudi Arabia is the country that has more proven oil in the world, but according to recent reports from OPEC, this is not so. We are in a world where each time oil is leaving to be the determining factor in the global economy, where it is needed even more for the development of emerging countries, where governments should invest in the creation of renewable energy for development that are worth fortunes, where natural resources are more taken into account. For instance, in Latin America there are resources as the site of “Vaca Muerta” and Gas in Argentina.
Not to mention that, of the ten most important mining countries in the world, seven are Latin ones: Venezuela, Mexico, Peru, Brazil, Bolivia, Chile and Argentina, in the latter three ones is where 80% of the reserves of lithium in the world are located, which is the component of technology, of batteries for cars of the future that want fuel vehicles to be replaced in countries as Singapore, India, China and United Arab Emirates. In fact, if these countries want to continue growing as they have been doing so far, they have to consider that half of the world's biodiversity is located in the heart of Latin America.
We are now entering into a new phase of the global economy by the hand of the technology advance, of the artificial intelligence and a more virtual reality day after day. The best example we are seeing every week with the creation of new inventions that make our lives easier and practical, as the invention that will change the logistics industry worldwide: 3D printers. In no more than 10 years, we will no longer buy products but ideas. While on the subject, ¿why do I refer to Latin America as the market of the future, especially for India and UAE? For two reasons, mainly because, considering that India will be the economy that will grow more in the next 10 years accomplishing it since this year, and that UAE will be the most biggest business center in the world since DUBAI Expo 2020, both will need to unite forces, to balance natural resources and the development of the regions as partners since these two countries are axes of a new world that is coming and we have it just around the corner.
