33 member countries of the integrationist organization began negotiations on the documents to be presented to heads of state and government on 28 and 29 coming in 3rd summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean
The president of Costa Rica, Luis Guillermo Solis, said relations between the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) and China as part of the achievements of his country during the 12 months he has been the President Pro Tempore of this organization.
Prior to the start of the summit of foreign ministers, and then the summit of presidents and prime ministers from 28 to 29 January, Solis met with the international press.
In reviewing the achievements of this year chairing the CELAC, Solis said dialogue processes with other countries and regions, which considered important if regional entity wishes to continue as a relevant actor in the coming decades.
Solis considered "historic" the dialogue between CELAC and China in the meeting held earlier this month in Beijing, and said that this was an exercise that the Latino community want to continue developing.
"China is critical. The President Xi Jinping has made a concrete commitment to Latin America, which was reflected in his meeting with the quartet of CELAC in Brazil in the month of July. That effort was accomplished with our meeting in Beijing three weeks ago, so it is to emphasize the importance that China has as an international actor on the agenda of CELAC future, "he said.
Solis said that one of the phenomena that have been found in the CELAC is the growing interest of various international actors to establish intra-regional and multilateral dialogues. The same applies to many of the international agencies.
"Our exercise would be meaningless if we are not able to make it an instrument of influence on the international agenda, and that happens not only coordinate positions, but also in the possibility that we have a dialogue with countries and groups of countries in an orderly manner following criteria have to be defined at this summit, "said the president.
The Costa Rican president said he hopes for this summit in Costa Rica that the region new targets to combat poverty and hunger, as well as other objects of the "Agenda post-2015" which will replace the "Millennium Goals trace ".
