It is CityCop, an app developed and tested in Uruguay, which allows neighbors together to create their own map of the crime to be prevented and informed at all times.
Now it is available for free download on Android and Apple devices with GPS, which is the key element that allows the location of the crimes.
We spoke to one of its developers, Federico Cella, who told us the scope and benefits of this application that will surely be present in most smartphones in a country where insecurity is experienced every day.
How does it work? After a brief registration, validation and email device, the display will locate the user on the map where immediately icons complaints by the residents of that area with an approximate radius of ten block radius will be. "What we wanted to do with the application is to limit the information flow can be used by people to minimize risks in the day-to-day everyday life, not sharing anything but things that help others to avoid risky situations, "says Federico.
The offenses are classified into nine categories, each identified with an icon and a color: theft to person, vehicle, home or business, suspicious activity, murder, vandalism, point of sale of drugs or sexual abuse; stating what had happened and the date and time of the event. In turn, you can upload a photo of the suspect if any and make the complaint anonymously. You can also share on their social networks Facebook and Twitter so that others may learn yet registered the fact.
Additionally, you can set not only the house and the neighborhood where the user lives, but also lets you add your other areas of interest, such as "place of work", "school", "club", among other options, can manage your alert zones from the menu as often as desired. A configurable push alerts allow the user to know in advance, no matter where you are, if an event occurred in any of its areas of interest.
In the United States are already working to integrate CityCop with 911, something that could be replicated in our country, and after the presentation in the coming weeks, will be raised with the authorities of the Ministry of Security. Thus, the information coming in real time from the 911, and will appear on the screen, updating on the development of fact to conclusion. Also in Peru and Ecuador do something similar study as a tool to combat insecurity.
As for false allegations, Federico tells us that the ability to add comments added, ask who made that complaint to add more details and report abuse if it is found that there is no effect, "the community itself is the will moderate the information it deems useful to think of that does not add value. If users bother permanently locks the same application to build several reports of abuse, first temporarily and if you insist on such behavior, the lock will be permanent. "
