Those young people with whom I was in Saigon not suffer nightmares about Agent Orange or hate Americans. His parents and grandparents won that war, and now they have another job. The country that is prosperous

If there is something that really fascinates me about any country are certainly streets. Forget taxis and public transport and take any random direction. Discover the place through what happens at street level and not what the tour guides want you to see. And while other parts of the world can be dangerous for a type of round eyes in a dark alley, it is not in Southeast Asia.

I say this because I've never trusted a lot in the guide books and what they have. At the end of the day, have prepared a tourist tried to give you what you expect to receive speech. Without departing from the script.

A place that's notably Vietnam. The name of the country weighs the former French Indochina. Americans have ensured that whenever we think we remember the Vietnam war. That war they lost against all odds.

This means that many tourists plan their stay in South Vietnam-the side that lost the war thinking of movies like Platoon and Apocalypse Now. On offer we have is extensive. A museum with remains of the American military, the Reunification Palace, the tunnels of Cu Chi warrior village among other attractions. Certainly, in tourist offices war is more alive than ever.

However, none of this has to do with the current Vietnam. The country whose capital is now in Hanoi opened two decades ago and now the world is one of the fastest growing states in the world. The skyscraper in Ho Chi Minh City, formerly Saigon, and the best infrastructures in Southeast Asia attest that the war left behind many years ago.

On my last stay in Saigon, as they like to call the local center of their city-I had the opportunity to meet with a group of college students. Boys between 18 and 23 years studying in South Vietnam. If I have to choose who teaches me better on a particular society, I always choose the students.

Because students as they were able to overthrow vicious dictators like Indonesia. Or because based on his flesh suffer abuses of power have been able to change the course of events, such as college Burma, who along with his monks put a bias against the weapons of the military. They had words and good intentions, and won.

In Ho Chi Minh I was glad that I could share my time with the children of peace. Because students hovering twenties have not lived in Vietnam war and is too far away. Hollywood continues determined to remind the world that the most important thing that happened in Vietnam is the war they lost. On the side of the winners, the remainder is history.

Those young people with whom I was in Saigon not suffer nightmares about Agent Orange or hate Americans. His parents and grandparents won that war, and now they have another job. The country that is prosperous.

As curious youngsters today, are interested in what happens in Europe and America. Also by how they live their Southeast Asian neighbors. Some want to be engineers and build better bridges for their country. Other physicians to improve health. But everyone has the smile of children who have lived in peace. It is possible that your country is poor democracy. But they're at it. And sooner or later they will achieve these changes that the country has no other choice but to live.
